How To Get Massive Free Advertising With Ezines

For the netrepreneur seeking targeted free and low-cost advertising, ezines are an excellent resource. Using the following strategies you can get hundreds of dollars worth of ezine advertising on an ongoing basis, absolutely for free. You can also use these resources to structure an advertising campaign to fit your budget.

Before you get started, make sure you set up a special email address just for your ezine subscriptions - this will be very important to help you stay organized. Be careful about using a web-based email account, if you go out of town or miss a few days, there's a chance it might fill up too quickly. If your emails start bouncing, your ads will not run. If you do not have access to a separate email alias from your current ISP and need to set up a free web-based account, it's best to use one with a large amount of storage space, such as:

Google's Social Layer May Be a Toolbar

Google's "Emerald Sea" Already Being Called Something Different

There have been a lot of rumors and a lot of speculation around a "social layer" that Google is supposedly adding to many of its products. Little has been known about Google's planned implementation and the functionality of this social layer, and a great deal of talk has been around the name itself.

MG Siegler at TechCrunch, who learned this week that the product was allegedly being referred to internally as "Emerald Sea", is now saying that the name has already evolved again to "Google +1" according to some sources or "@Google" by others, one of which, he says could end up being the final name.

None of the sources are named so we can only take the suggestions for what they are: rumor. I'm just going to keep referring to it as the "social layer" until we hear something different from Google itself.

Emerald Sea - Google's new name for "Google Me"?

What it Might Be

The name isn't that important though. It's that aforementioned implementation and functionality that will really matter, and Siegler claims to know a bit about that now as well, reporting:

In its current state, Google +1 is said to be a toolbar that appears across many of Google's services. That is said to include their Chrome web browser. Though one source says they believe it will be a Chrome extension, rather than being fully baked into the browser — at least for now. And while +1 should start on Google properties, the idea would be get other sites to implement it too — perhaps like Facebook's Like button and other social widgets.

Again, we can only consider this rumor for now, and in all likelihood, Google doesn't even know for sure how it will implement its new social layer. The launch has already reportedly been pushed back to Spring of next year. They want to get it right. They need to.

Assuming that this does turn out to be a toolbar across Google services (and potentially across other sites), is this the right approach? To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm looking around at various Google products and trying to visualize what it might look like, and quite frankly it's not that great, but I'm not going to judge a product that is just a rumor at this point, based on my own imagination of what it could be.

Google does need to find a way to tie its products together more efficiently and get people to notice that they're tied together. As far as getting onto other sites, it's hard to see how they could make this work any differently than they're existing offerings. They already offer "Buzz" buttons, Google Friend Connect, etc. We'll just have to wait and see.

On a related note, Google co-founder Sergey Brin is reportedly getting involved with the product.

Five Reasons Podcasting Might Be Right For Your Home-based Business

Podcasting has been called the wave of the future. The truth, however, is that podcasting is the here-and-now and is rapidly gaining momentum across the world. There are podcasts available for just about any topic you can think of from cooking to video games to religion. As of February 2006, a Google search for the term "podcast" returns over 205,000,000 results. The amazing reality of this is that it is still, in effect, an untapped market that will continue its growth in the years to come.

Excitement is high and the time has come to open your virtual doors to the millions and millions of Internet users around the globe. Don't worry! This is something every webmaster goes through and is to be expected. (Well, webmasters in the late 90's expected to launch their site and be millionaires the next morning, but times have changed since those wonderful days!)

The Small Details Can Make or Break Your Campaign

Adopted from WebProNews

At ad:tech New York, Dan LaCivita, President of Firstborn, a creative agency that worked on a well-received campaign for Pepsi's Sobe brand, along with Rami Jabaji, the Associate Brand Manager for Sobe, showed off the campaign kicked off earlier this year at SXSW in which they created a Flash-based app that allowed users to create fake (but real-looking) tattoos on images of themselves, with the intention of fooling their friends (and mothers).

The beauty of the campaign was not only the innovation behind it to begin with, but the fact that it easily translated to a variety of digital options. What started as simply an app at a kiosk at the event was eventually turned into a web application that anybody could use online and a mobile app that allows the user to take a picture of their friends and do the same thing.

Facebook Makes Green Push

Adopted from WebProNews

The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) said today that Facebook has joined the Digital Energy Solutions Campaign (DESC)  in an effort to develop energy efficient computing systems.

"Our ongoing philosophy has been to improve the efficiency of our infrastructure and we continue to invest tremendous resources to improve our own operations,” said Jonathan Heiliger, Vice President of Technical Operations at Facebook.
Green-on-Facebook“By creating and sharing innovative technology solutions, we hope to help raise the visibility of the importance of environmental sustainability across all industries. Today, we're proud to be joining with DESC to help make efficiency and environmental responsibility a priority for everyone."

Earlier this year, Facebook engineers launched a programming language, HipHop for PHP, which allowed their servers to do the same amount of work with half the number of servers. To spread the benefit, Facebook has open sourced the programming language so that other companies can get the same energy saving benefits.

To promote its sustainability efforts, Facebook has also launched a Facebook/green Page as a resource for individuals and organizations. Facebook will be working with environmental organizations to administer the Page.

preview 10 Tips & Tricks For Your Businesss Facebook Fan Page
What is the first thing a visitor will see when they land on your Facebook page? Most of them will probably click on the “wall” or the “info” and if nothing is more fascinating than that, chances are they will leave your page. It is an advantage when visitors "like" your page and become a fan is because they will be updated from time to time with latest things you published. With the Static FBML application which render HTML and FBML on Facebook Pages you are now given more options to design your Facebook page.
I am sure some of you have stumble upon Facebook page that makes you wonder “How is that even possible?!” Now it can be possible. In this post I hope I’ve successfully covered some tips and tricks to give your Facebook page a boost.

1 – "Call-To-Action" Graphic

More of a piece of advice than a trick. The main purpose of your Facebook landing page is to convert visitors into fans. Place a clear call-to-action graphic in the landing tab, this will help getting more "Likes" from your visitors.
Example: RedBull’s "Red Bull" tab has nothing but a call-to-action on it.

2 – Embedding YouTube Video

An image is needed whenever you place a video because Facebook does not allow you to run flash instantly, you need to launch it with a click, until then you see the picture instead.

You can use YouTube generated picture like in this code, or you can put your own URL with your custom picture.
The code:
  1. swfbgcolor="000000" imgstyle="border-width:3px; border-color:white;"
  2. swfsrc='http://www.youtube.com/v/xxxxxxxxxx'
  3. imgsrc='http://img.youtube.com/vi/xxxxxxxxxx/2.jpg' width='340' height='270' />
Code explanation:
  • swfsrc – video source URL;
  • imgsrc – image source URL;
  • xxxxxxxxxx – YouTube code.
xxxxxxxxxx is taken out of YouTube video URL like this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJwbGPXMapA (it’s the part after ?v=).

3 – Hiding content from non-fans

This can be use as a teaser to encourage visitors to "Like" your page and become a fan.
03 hide content from non fans FBML 10 Tips & Tricks For Your Businesss Facebook Fan Page
The code:
  1. "1.1">
  2.     This part is visible for fans only!
  3.         else>This part is visible for non-fanselse>
  4.
  5.
Code explanation:
  • fb:visible-to-connect – the part that only your fans will see;
  • fb:else – the part for non-fans.
Most of the pages use an image with a call-to-action for a fb:else tag, and the page itself goes under the fb:visible-to-connect. That’s really easy to do, and very powefrul.

4 – Products commenting

This feature is great for setting a little store under your Facebook business page as you can have each of your products liked and commented.
04 threadless comments FBML 10 Tips & Tricks For Your Businesss Facebook Fan Page
The code:
  1. "YOUR_PRODUCT_UNIQUE_ID_#1" canpost="true" showform="true" candelete="false" numposts="3" returnurl="http://YOUR_PRODUCT_HOME_URL">
  2.
Code explanation:
  • xid – unique identifier of the item you put comments on;
  • returnurl – the URL, to which likes and comments will stick.
The rest of the parameters is used to configure the plugin itself and are pretty self-explanatory.

5 – Insert "Share Button"

With this button you can have Facebookers share almost anything. Put the URL you wish to share in the code and once a person uses the Share button, all his friends will see this URL in their news feed.

The code:
  1. class="meta">
  2.     "target_url" href="http://yoururl.com"/>
  3.
(Somehow the documentation of this FBML tag is no longer available. I really hope they won’t turn off this great plugin.)

6 – Insert Flash Content

The code:
  1. "000000" swfsrc='http://domain.com/file.swf' imgsrc='http://domain.com/picture.jpg' width='760' height='920' />
Code explanation:
  • swfsrc – source of the .swf file;
  • imgsrc – source of the image that is being displayed, before you flash.
Remember that you need a preview image which people will see before they launch Flash.

7 – Image Rollover

People can go rather creative about this trick, but it’s really simple to do with HTML + CSS, which is supported by FBML box.

The code:
  1.
  2.
  3. "THIS IS WHERE YOUR LINK GOES">
  4.     "base_image.jpg" class="nohover">
  5.     "hover_image.jpg" class="hover">
  6.

8 – Track with Google Analytics

Facebook analytics system has limited information? No problem! You can set Google Analytics on your Facebook page.

Just create up a new account in Google Analytics using your Facebook page URL, copy your UA-XXXXXXX-XX number and insert it here:
  1. "UA-9999999-99" />
Place this line at the top of your FBML code and in a couple of hours you’ll see stats in Google Analytics.

9 – Add "Invite your friends" box

This is basically a standalone box, which is really hard to embed to a page design. However this is probably the best solution for a page footer that you can think of, as your visitors can instantly choose some of their friends and send them invitations to your page.
09 invite your friends box 10 Tips & Tricks For Your Businesss Facebook Fan Page
The code:
  1. "post" type="[your organization]" invite="true" content="Check out [your organization] ">
  2.     "Tell your friends about [your organization]" rows="3" showborder="true" />
  3.
Since the pages were shrunk to 520px there’s a little trouble with this box, as it’s still 760px. But I’m sure somebody has already reported that and the box will be shrunk too.

10 – Pop-up dialog

If there’s too much content on your page, you can hide some parts of it under the pop-up boxes. The code adds a text link, which results in a pop-up dialog text box.

The code:
  1. "dialog-name" href="#" >Click here to launch the pop-up dialog.
  2.
  3. "dialog-name">
  4. POP-UP DIALOG NAME
  5. Here goes your pop-up dialog content
  6. "submit" value="Close" close_dialog="1" />

This was a basic set of tricks which you can use to pimp your page easily. Hope you are now inspired to make a compelling Facebook business page for yourself. Good luck!
